A Landmark Steel Structure Integrating Nature into Contemporary Architecture

Located in the heart of Riga, this new development stands out through a distinctive architectural concept that seamlessly combines contemporary design with natural elements. A living tree has been integrated into the corner of the building between the third and fourth floors, supported by a custom-engineered steel structure designed exclusively for this project. The result is a striking architectural feature that gives the building a unique identity while creating a harmonious relationship between the urban environment and nature.

Ars Magna played a key role in the engineering development of this solution and was responsible for the fabrication and installation of the entire steel structure. Rising more than seven metres in height and spanning between 3.3 and 3.8 metres in width, the structure serves not only as a bold architectural statement but also as a robust support system designed to accommodate the tree’s weight, future growth and wind loads throughout its service life.

The contrast between the glass façade, the dark steel framework and the living tree transforms the installation into the defining visual element of the building. Delivering a bespoke structure of this scale required exceptional precision in engineering, manufacturing and installation, successfully balancing architectural aesthetics with demanding structural and long-term performance requirements.

More than a functional support, the steel structure has become an integral part of the building’s architectural composition.
