Ars Magna creates a collection of 50 aluminium “volcanoes” for Amos Rex Museum in Helsinki

Ars Magna, in collaboration with architecture studio ĒTER, has created a special series of 50 sculptural objects – small volcanoes – now available at the Amos Rex Museum gift shop in Helsinki, Finland.

These compact aluminium objects are miniature art pieces, inspired by the large-scale “Volcano” installation designed by ĒTER for Studio Rex – a creative space located within the Amos Rex Museum itself.

Studio Rex is a dedicated part of the museum – a place for creativity, reflection and dialogue, where workshops, talks and artist presentations take place. At the heart of the room stands an impressive volcano-like structure lined with soft red forms, inviting visitors to sink in, recline, and symbolically descend into the subterranean world of Amos Rex.

The idea of this “breathing volcano beneath the earth” inspired Ars Magna’s small aluminium volcanoes, which transform an architectural experience into a tangible, collectible object.
Each volcano is handcrafted and individually numbered, making the collection a unique example of the intersection between craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Architecture studio ĒTER is known for its experimental approach to space and sensory experience. Their work has been exhibited in Stockholm, Riga, London, Paris, Hong Kong, and now – for the first time – in Helsinki.

Opened in 2018, Amos Rex is one of the most significant contemporary art museums in Northern Europe, renowned for its underground exhibition halls and distinctive dome-shaped skylights, which have become an architectural symbol of Helsinki.

The small “volcanoes” available at the Amos Rex gift shop offer visitors a personal connection to the museum’s architecture and atmosphere – a way to take home a small piece of its creative energy.
